１２年前のねずみ年の今頃、私は大学院の博士課程に上がるための修士論文の作成に追われていた。当時も、やはり寝る間もなく、何千冊もの本に囲まれながら、部屋にこもって論文を仕上げていた。そしていま、石膏や粘土に囲まれた部屋で、原型の制作に明け暮れている。実は、何を隠そう、ディズニーランドには一度も行ったことがなかった。勉強か仕事、それがすべての毎日だったからだ。そして今、彫刻家としての“仕事”で、初めてディズニーランドを訪れている。そう言えば、ミッキーはねずみだったっけ・・・。
