不安と挑戦 Worry and challenge

顔の輪郭も見えてきた。いつも原石を前にすると、本当にこの石からこんな形を彫り出すことが私に出来るのだろうか？と、まるで初心者の気持ちになる。しかし、ここまで来ると、そういう不安も消えていく。原石からスタートするということは、すべてがゼロからの挑戦だ。

The outline of the face appeared. When I see a raw marble, I always feel whether or not I can sculpt it into such a figure, like a beginner. But, up to this point I have sculpted, such a worry fades away. To start from a raw marble is to challenge from the very beginning.

輪郭 The outline

かなり輪郭が見えてきた。ここからは、細部に注意しながら彫っていく。

The outline fairly appeared. From now, I must take care of the details.

石で挟む Sandwich between stones

小さいと軽いので、他の石で挟んで固定して彫っている。手前にノミとハンマーが見える。

It is small and light, so I put it between other stones for fixing and sculpted it. You can see chisels and a hammer.

まるで岩のよう Like a rock

わずか２０ｃｍほどの大きさなのに、岩を彫っているような錯覚に襲われる。というのも、この白い大理石は頑強でとても渋く、鋭くとがれたノミでさえも、なかなか思うように削れていかないからだ。しかし、その分、目が詰まっているとことであり、小さな細工をするには適した大理石だと言えよう。

Inspite of only about 20 cm in height, an illusion that I was sculpting a rock came over me. Because this marble is so tough and strong that I can't sculpt it as I expected, even with sharpened chisels. But, therefore, it is fine-grained, and suitable for fine work.

彫り始め The first step of sculpting

模型を参照しながら、午後から彫り始めた。午前中の写真と比べると、彫り進んだ度合いがわかる。

Referring to the model in gypsum, I started sclulpting in the afternoon. If you compare these photos with the one in the morning, you can see progress of sculpting.

制作開始 I started sculpturing.

茨城に移動し、大理石での制作を開始した。同時に複数の作品を仕上げていく。

I moved to Ibaraki and started sculpturing marble. I will make more than one sculpture at the same time.

出口王仁三郎像の石膏原型 The positive model of Onisaburou Deguchi in gypsum

ようやく、出口王仁三郎の石膏原型も仕上がった。これで来週から、茨城での制作準備が終了した。

Finally I finished the positive model of Onisaburou Deguchi in gypsum. Now I can go to Ibaraki for sculpturing marble next week.
