ミクロの世界 The microscopic world

マケドニアに滞在中、ギリシャのテサロニキの博物館で、古代マケドニアの黄金壺に、小さな人の姿がレリーフとして見事に施されていたのを見た記憶がある。手の平よりも小さな大きさなのに、その指にはなんと爪まで克明に刻み込まれていた。当時はとても自分には真似できないと思っていたが、私は今、それを大理石でやろうとしている・・・。

While staying in Macedonia, I visited the Antique museum in Thessaloniki, Greece and found an antique golden pot with relief, small figures of men and women. Their size was smaller than a palm, but their fingers had nails in detail. In that time, I didn't think I could do the same thing, but now, I'm trying to do it in marble.
