Grope （手探り）

This work was sculpted not as knowing the final figure, but as thinking how much to be sculpted or not to be sculpted, how much the outline of hand to be made. It depended on my marble and time. Then I had only one month for making it, I must have done nothing but sculpt as groping.

この作品は、最終的な完成形がわかって彫ったというより、どこまで彫るか、どこまで手の輪郭を出して、どこまで彫らないかということを、石と時間と相談しながら彫っていった。このとき、私には一ヶ月という時間しかなかったので、手探りのまま、ひたすら彫っていくしかなかった。
