She looks so painful, because polished so much. The reason why Venus of Milo doesn't look so painful, in spite of almost same damage, is that she had been buried in earth for a long time and lost the polished surface, then she was balanced between texture and damage.
ピカピカに磨き上げられているだけに、痛々しくさえ見える。ミロのヴィーナスが同じくらい傷ついているのに、痛々しく見えないのは、長年土の中に埋もれて、磨きが落ち、全体の風合いがちょうどよくなっているからである。
